2010 Town Hall Meeting Materials |
|
The goal of your Town Hall Meeting is to help your community reduce underage drinking. This can be done through motivating individuals to talk with their children about not using alcohol, by encouraging groups of parents to adopt consistent messages, and by changing the environment that encourages young people to drink.
Here are a few ideas to consider for your Town Hall Meeting:

|
Town Hall Meeting 101 Invite your community to come together to identify what is needed to reduce underage drinking. Brainstorm ideas and decide what your community wants to do first. Build your team to carry out your plan. The Business of Building Business Partnerships Invite your community to develop a plan for getting businesses, especially alcohol retailers, involved in positive community change, such as reducing outdoor advertising and removing beer gardens from family-focused events. Parent Pledge Program Invite parents to develop a Parent Pledge Program with the local PTA or to identify other ways parents can work together to assure their young people do not use alcohol. Alcoholic Energy Drinks and Teens Invite community members to learn about alcoholic energy drinks, the dangers in their formulas, and how young people are being targeted.PowerPoint ; Video Clip; Presentation tips |

Having concerns about kids using prescription drugs to get high? Here are some materials (scroll down to Prevention, then choose from the list under Prescription and Over the Counter Drugs) that you may use at a Town Hall Meeting. A new brochure is filled with information about this growing problem, and a very specific strategy- creating a community medicine return program is described here.
